Step 10: What to do with Trial Lessons
Watch the video at this link here.
How to successfully teach trial students:
- Pick a topic that isn’t too hard – topics like travel, work, school are great (Euthanasia or veganism is not so good….)
- Explain to them that everyone is nervous at the beginning, but our students are super nice. Ask the students to introduce themselves to the trial student.
- Allow them to go last when answering a question, as follows
- Question: What is one downside to your current job?
- 1st student to answer: strongest student
- 2nd student to answer: second-strongest student
- 3rd student to answer: weakest student
- 4th student to answer: trial
- Question: What is one downside to your current job?
- At the end of the class, make sure they speak “last” to give them the impression and memory that they were practicing their speaking
- Give lots of encouragement and try very hard to highlight a common mistake they are making
Last, but not least….
Please remember the three things to make all of our lives easier:
- Start your classes on time.
- Finish your classes on time. (Super important for us).
- Keep things light and fun – this isn’t an IELTS exam or a job interview!
That’s it, you’re done!
